Beginner tennis camp for adults

Yes, an adult who has never played or is coming back to tennis can join a camp at the Mouratoglou Academy: every adult camp is open to all levels from age 18, in level groups of up to 4 players per coach. For a first week, the Player Camp Adult, five mornings in Biot near Nice and Cannes, is the most gradual format.

Camp details

Can you join a tennis camp if you have never played?

Yes. The Mouratoglou Academy’s adult camps have no minimum level. What shapes your experience is not the camp you choose but the group you play in: it brings together adults of a similar level, so everyone progresses at their own pace.

When you book, three questions place your level: the year you started (or restarted), how many hours a week you play and how many matches a year. For a beginner the answers are simple, and they are enough to put you in the right group before you arrive.

On day one, an on-court assessment lets the technical managers confirm or adjust the groups. You will not find yourself facing much stronger players: the aim is a consistent level, with up to 4 players per court and per coach.

Mornings or full days for a beginner?

For a first week, the Player Camp Adult is the most gradual format: 1.5 hours of tennis a day (2 in summer) and 1.5 hours of physical training, Monday to Friday mornings. Each session follows a technical theme: forehand, backhand, baseline play, approach shots or net play. In the afternoon your body recovers and you enjoy the Côte d’Azur.

The Performance Camp Adult is also open to beginners. It doubles the volume (3 hours of tennis a day, 4 in summer) and adds a tactical and a mental session. It suits sporty beginners who are already physically fit and want full immersion.

Can’t get away for a week? The Player Weekend Camp Adult offers two training mornings on Saturday and Sunday, from September to mid-June: a good way to try the format before a full week.

What to expect from five days

A camp will not turn a beginner into a tournament player in five days, and nobody will promise you that. What a supervised week in a small group does is lay solid foundations: a correct grip, better footwork, longer rallies and clear reference points for what comes next.

The Mouratoglou methodology starts from your actual level: coaches identify what already works in your game, the details holding you back and the areas to develop. Physical training complements the on-court work to improve your movement, positioning and ability to sustain a rally.

At the end of the camp, your Game Report brings together your coaches’ observations, your strengths and your priorities: a clear thread to follow at your club or on a second week with us.

Equipment and practical details

  • Racquet: we recommend bringing your own; if not, the Mouratoglou Pro Shop on campus sells racquets and strings them on site.
  • Shoes: the programme adapts to the weather and is played on clay or hard courts (33 courts, 8 of them indoor); bring all-court shoes.
  • Getting there: the campus is in Biot, 15 km from Nice airport; free parking is available on site.
  • Languages: the teams are international, and sessions run in English and French among others.

Frequently asked questions

Can I join an adult tennis camp if I have never played?

Yes. Every adult camp is open to all levels from age 18. You are placed in a beginner group from your answers at booking, and the group is confirmed after the first-day assessment.

Mornings or full days for a beginner?

The Player Camp Adult, in the mornings (1.5 hours of tennis a day, 2 in summer), is the most gradual format. The Performance Camp Adult, over full days, suits sporty beginners who want total immersion.

Will I be with much better players?

No. Groups are formed by level, with up to 4 players per court and per coach, and the technical managers adjust them after the first day to keep the level consistent.

Do I need my own racquet?

It is recommended. If you do not have one, the Mouratoglou Pro Shop on campus sells racquets and offers stringing on site.

How fast will I progress?

It depends on each player. A supervised week in a small group lays solid foundations, and you leave with a Game Report setting your priorities to keep improving after the camp.

I am returning to tennis after years away: which camp should I choose?

The same camps, in a group that matches your current level. Give your start year and current practice when you book; the Player Camp Adult is ideal for a gentle return.
