Profile & career

A globetrotter who blossomed late.

Left-hander Cameron Norrie is one of the most established names in British tennis, after long playing in the shadow of Andy Murray. The highlight of his career came at the Indian Wells Masters 1000 in 2021: seeded 21st, he seized his chance in a draw where his nearest rivals were Diego Schwartzman (No. 11), Roberto Bautista Agut (No. 15) and Grigor Dimitrov (No. 23).

His background makes him a true globetrotter. Born in South Africa in 1995 to British parents, he grew up in New Zealand from the age of three and represented New Zealand until 2013, when he took his parents' nationality after breaking into the junior top 10.

After Indian Wells his career reached a new level, and he hit his highest ranking, 8th, in 2022, the year he played his first Grand Slam semi-final in front of his home crowd at Wimbledon.

CAREER

Titles, year by year.

Norrie turned professional after an excellent college career but took time to make his mark on the ATP Tour. In 2019 he reached the semi-finals in Acapulco, beating Diego Schwartzman, but it was in 2021, with his triumph at Indian Wells, that he finally confirmed his place at the highest level. He followed it with a Wimbledon semi-final in 2022, lost to eventual champion Novak Djokovic, and established himself in the world's top 20. Injuries held him back in 2024, when he dropped to around 50th. He has won five titles and played ten finals, including Queen's in 2021 and Buenos Aires in 2023, and has beaten top-10 players ten times, his best win undoubtedly coming against Carlos Alcaraz in the Rio de Janeiro final.

Junior and college years.

  1. 2013

  2. College

After disappointing results in Europe, he moved to the United States to play for Texas Christian University's Horned Frogs. He became the No. 1 player on the US college circuit and was named All-American three times.
