Profile & career

One of the most consistent players of her generation.

Simona Halep is regarded as one of the best players on the women's tour of the 2010s and early 2020s, above all for her consistency. World No. 1 for the first time in 2017, she won two Grand Slam titles: Roland-Garros in 2018 and Wimbledon in 2019, where she beat seven-time champion Serena Williams in the final.

She began working with Patrick Mouratoglou in April 2022. The partnership brought a Wimbledon semi-final and a title in Toronto, but it was cut short in October 2022 when she was provisionally suspended after a positive test. The Court of Arbitration for Sport later recognised that she had suffered food contamination.

Did you know?In 2019 she became the first Romanian woman to win the Wimbledon title.

She went on to win 24 WTA titles, including two Grand Slams and nine WTA 1000 events, and to reach 18 other finals. Simona Halep began working with Patrick Mouratoglou in April 2022. Down to 20th in the world, she had considered retiring, but training alongside the academy's young players reconnected her with her dream. “I asked to work with Patrick because I really want to get back to the top,” she said. “I'm working every day to win another Grand Slam.” Mouratoglou shared her ambition: “The idea is to do everything possible to make her the best she can be, so that when she retires she can say ‘I did the best I could’.”

After a Wimbledon semi-final and the Canadian Open title, the partnership was interrupted by her provisional suspension in October 2022. Their last victory together came in March 2024, when the Court of Arbitration for Sport accepted their arguments, recognised the food contamination and reduced her ban from four years to nine months. She returned to competition in Miami a few days later.
