Thijs Boogaard

Profile & career

A precocious talent who believes in his chances.

Thijs Boogaard is a precocious player: he won his first ATP point at just 14, in his very first professional match, at the $15,000 Futures event in Alkmaar in 2023, where he beat his compatriot Stian Klaassen. In 2024 he played in the qualifying draw of the ATP 500 in Rotterdam, losing to France's Hugo Gaston 6-3, 6-3.

Among the juniors, the Dutchman won six titles in a row between 2022 and 2023 and became the youngest player to win an ITF J300 title, at 14. In 2024 he added three more titles, two J100 events in Stavanger and a J200 in Villingen-Schwenningen, without dropping a set, and reached his best junior ranking, world No. 23, in January.

He loves the game for its sensations: "The sound of a perfectly struck ball on a court, there's nothing better I think. It's addictive." And for him, the mind is the key to success: "If you don't believe in your chances, you won't win. If, on the other hand, you believe in them, then you've already taken a big step towards victory."
