Profile & career

Power, intensity and a hunger to make up for lost time.

Carel Ngounoue is an explosive player who impresses with his physicality and intensity. Behind his calm exterior lies real inner energy and a hunger to make up for lost time: he spent nearly two years away from the court through injury, and has come back stronger, with a clear ambition to rise among the world's best.

Born in the United States to Cameroonian parents, he is the younger brother of Clervie, also a Champ'seed player, and of Malkia, who also plays tennis.

In 2022 he was the singles finalist and doubles champion at the Petits As in Tarbes, the international tournament for the best 12-to-14-year-olds, and reached the final of the Under-14 event at Wimbledon. He reached his best junior ranking, world No. 98, in February 2024.
